Preparations for Hikes

With summer in full swing and a series of full-day (read: difficult!) hikes on schedule, it’s time to go through some pointers. I’ve written quite a bit about summer preparations in this article, which you can also check out.

In addition to the preparations, one must know one’s ability before embarking on a difficult hike. I’ve been running hikes for the local community for the past 15 years and I’m very selective when it comes to hiking with new members. If I haven’t hiked with you before, I’ll screen you by asking what’s the most difficult hike you’ve done, its duration, etc. Of course it’s easier with locals who’ve attended previous hikes with us as I can gauge their abilities from past experiences. The same can’t be said about visitors/first time hikers. So it’s even more important to pay attention to the description of the hike you’re signing up for.

All of the hikes listed on our website mention the total duration, elevation, and distance and are broken down to the level (easy, intermediate, difficult). However, the latter can be subjective so the former factors are important to consider before signing up for a hike.
