Project: Campaigning for Self-determination of BC’s Environment

In keeping with Nature PhotoHikes’ mission to give back to the local community, our next charity of choice is Dogwood BC, a people-powered organization driven by a shared love of place, in this case our beautiful province of British Columbia. Dogwood brings together voters from all over the political spectrum to work on the urgent challenges facing BC.

Our most recent challenge is the protection of our land, water and environment against dangers of climate control by large corporations, specifically those posed by the Kinder-Morgan pipeline project. As nature lovers, it’s always been a priority for us to focus on a clean and healthy environment, firstly on a global level, but more specifically the area our hikes and tours are affected by. As the political climate changes dramatically throughout Canada when it comes to this specific project, residents of BC and especially our First Nations’ communities have been at the forefront of this fight to regain control of our own space and democracy. As such, Dogwood’s role has been instrumental in galvanizing awareness, activism and voter action. We at Nature PhotoHikes, through proceeds from our hikes, hope to assist in their amazing efforts.

From time to time, our local community of hikers will be asked not only to donate, but also to act as a solid entity in our struggles to keep the environment safe and healthy for all British Columbians. Already many of our members have sacrificed time, money and energy in these struggles and recent developments of the temporary closure of the project is a sign of our strength and determination. These efforts will ensure that not only do we as a community benefit from BC’s pristine nature, but we also leave a legacy for our future generations to enjoy the same beauty we’ve taken for granted.
