In spite of the smoke and haze surrounding our province in the month of August, we managed to squeeze in some difficult hikes in the area. But we don’t recommend doing big hikes due to poor visibility and health risks and advise sticking to low altitude, shorter and easier trails.
The recent fires have devastated our province. The fires, which cover 10 times the size of Vancouver and its smoke reaching even Ontario, is resulting in evacuations of several communities. This is the grim reality of climate change – this is the second year in a row that fires have impeded our hiking season, not to mention disrupting communities. Previous years saw many fires across our province but never in such a dangerous scale.
As the mandate of our hiking group is to give back to local and global needs, we donated $500 to Food Banks BC. For more info on how you can help, check out https://globalnews.ca/ne…/4392115/how-to-donate-bc-wildfire/
